OUTDOOR PROGRAM SPECIALISTS
Interviewing for 2020 Summer Staff
Position: Full to part-time, Mid-May to Mid-August, 2020
Each year Tall Oaks hires a crew focused on making sure camp runs smoothly during our busy summer season. It is our intent to provide a meaningful summer work experience in a Christian environment. We are looking for service oriented individuals with a positive, friendly, and enthusiastic attitude who enjoy interacting with children and adults from diverse backgrounds and with varying degrees of physical ability.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain experience related to ALL of the following youth development and education programming, but may be assigned primarily to an area where they exhibit the most skill and knowledge.
LIFEGUARD: Will provide lifeguard services for Tall Oaks' guests and daily pool maintenance. Prefer current American Red Cross lifeguard certificate but can be provided by Tall Oaks; at minimum, a candidate must have a strong swimming background for on-site training.
CHALLENGE COURSE facilitation: Will assist with Outdoor Adventures of Kansas (OAK) programing in our high and low ropes as well as facilitate ground games. Facilitators also teach nature study and archery lessons. Training provided; previous challenge course, rock climbing or other outdoor experience is helpful.
HORSE HANDLER: Will assist with lead line and trail rides, riding lessons, care and feeding of horses, and upkeep of equipment and facilities. Training provided, previous large animal experience is helpful.
FOOD SERVICE: Will train to work in Food Service Department where they will assist when needed.
MAINTENANCE: Will assist with general facility, trail, and grounds maintenance when needed.
HOUSEKEEPING: Will assist with cabin clean up and general housekeeping needs.
Work schedules will consist of a combination of day and evening shifts, with two set days off each week in normal situations. Full summer work schedule will begin mid-May and conclude mid August. Applicants needing a shorter summer schedule will be considered. Each summer staff person will be assigned duties for the week to include a combination of the descriptions listed above.
BENEFITS: (in addition to hourly wage will be dependent on degree of training or experience).
College Credit/Internship Opportunity: Eligible students can align this position to fulfill paid internship or work study requirements.
Room and Board: All positions will include meals while in a work status, and housing (for those qualified) for the length of service. Applicants who wish to be considered for living on site should be at least 18 years of age before June 1st, must have graduated from high school, and a preference will be given to full-time college students. We will consider qualified adults of any age. Junior staff (ages 16-17) will be accepted for drive-in positions.
Other Benefits: Scheduled personal use of the swimming pool and other activity areas when they are available. Special rate reservations for group use with family or friends.
